Resurfacing is outdoor work that depends on the weather. New plaster needs to cure properly, so the pool can't be done in freezing conditions. In Ontario, that means the work happens between spring and fall.
Spring: the most popular time
Resurfacing in spring means the pool is ready for the summer. That's why spring dates book up first. If you want your pool done before the season, get your assessment in the fall or winter before.
Summer: possible, with trade-offs
Work can be done in summer, but you lose swim time while the pool is empty and while new plaster starts up. Very hot days also make hand-troweling harder, so work is often scheduled around the heat.
Fall: a good, often overlooked option
Resurfacing after the swim season means you don't give up any summer. The work needs to be finished and the pool refilled before freezing weather, so it's best booked for early fall.
Winter: plan, don't build
Outdoor plastering isn't done in freezing weather. Winter is the time to get quotes and lock in a spring date.

It depends on where you are
The season isn't the same across the region. Windsor-Essex and Niagara have some of the longest seasons in the province. Further north, in Grey and Bruce, Simcoe County and along the Huron shore, the window is shorter, so it's even more important to book early.
The short version
- Want it ready for summer? Book in fall or winter for a spring date.
- Don't want to lose swim time? Look at early fall.
- Planning a full renovation? Give yourself extra lead time.
