This freeform concrete pool in Port Stanley, on the Lake Erie shore in Elgin County, had an old white finish that had reached the end of its life. The owners chose a new look: grey marbelite.
Before
With the pool drained, the old white surface was worn and patchy. The floor drains and wall fittings were exposed, which made it the right time to check them before the new finish went on.
Before
AfterWhat was done
- Draining and surface prep, so the new coat bonds properly to the shell.
- A full new interior in grey marbelite, troweled on by hand over the floor, walls and the curved steps.
- Filling and start-up, with careful brushing and water balancing while the new finish cured.
Why grey?
A white finish gives the water a bright, light blue. A grey finish gives it a deeper, richer colour that many owners find more natural, especially in a backyard with lots of greenery. You can see the swirl of the hand-troweled finish in the photo, which settles into an even tone once the pool is filled.
The tiled edges on the curved steps stand out clearly against the new grey, so the steps are easy to see.
