Here are two recent concrete pool resurfacing projects in the London area, photographed while the work was being finished.
New plaster on the steps and bench
On this pool, the steps and the floor got a full new plaster finish. Steps are where an old surface usually wears first, because they take the most foot traffic. The new coat is smooth underfoot, and the dark edge on each step makes them easy to see.

A dark finish, protected while it sets
This pool was resurfaced in a dark finish, which gives the water a deep, dramatic colour once it's filled. In the photo, the pool is covered with a tarp overhead. Fresh plaster needs to set evenly, and shading it from direct sun and rain helps the new surface cure properly.
